MINISTER DISPELS MISINFORMATION REGARDING N1BN BUDGET FOR GENEVA TRIP

The Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment has refuted recent media reports suggesting a budgeted N1 billion Naira foreign trip to Geneva next year. In an official statement, the minister clarified that such reports are a severe misrepresentation of the facts.

According to Toluwase Moyan, the Special Assistant, Media to the minister, there is no line item in the proposed budget of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment related to any "Foreign Trip to Geneva." The only mention of "Geneva" in the budget pertains to the maintenance of the Nigerian Trade Office in Geneva, specifically categorized as "External Trade Sector, Geneva (WTO)."

The minister emphasized that the misunderstanding may have arisen due to the confusion between the Nigerian Trade Office's maintenance costs and a supposed foreign trip. The office in Geneva represents Nigeria's interests in global trade, participating in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), both headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

The statement clarified that the proposed budget aims to address the current debt of N499,000,000.00 owed by the Nigeria Trade Office in Geneva. The budget is designed to service outstanding debts and maintain Nigeria's reputation on the global stage.

The ministry assured the public of its commitment to prudence, transparency, and accountability, emphasizing the necessity of meeting financial obligations for maintaining Nigeria's respect and standing among nations. #MinistryUpdate #BudgetClarification
