Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Rescues Abandoned Cancer Patient in Calabar


In a heartwarming stroke of luck, Eno Asuquo Essien, a 50-year-old battling suspected chronic breast cancer, found hope on the streets of Ekorinum, Calabar. Abandoned and seeking help, Eno's plight caught the attention of the Honorable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, who, in a rare act of compassion, intervened during her visit to the Obong of Calabar event.

Eno, a struggling food vendor who had sold all her belongings to address her fumigating breast cancer, was overcome with emotion as the Minister offered her full rehabilitation, medical treatment, and humanitarian assistance.


During her Christmas celebration in Calabar, Dr. Edu, known for her quiet acts of empathy, encountered Eno by chance and promptly arranged for her rescue. The grateful woman, abandoned by her family, expressed her joy, thanking the Minister and acknowledging the role of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in her appointment.



Speaking on the intervention, human rights lawyer Barrister James Ibor commended the Minister, describing her actions as "Humanitarian per Excellence" and praising the life-saving and timely response.


The Minister, Dr. Betta Edu, remained humble about the intervention, stating, "God will save Eno Asuquo Essien's life from this deadly state I met her."



Investigations revealed that Eno had been battling breast cancer for over three years without medical attention, drastically impacting her physical well-being. The Minister's compassionate act has brought relief to Eno, offering a ray of hope during the festive season.
