Force spokesman ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi highlighted the "Nigeria Police Emission Reduction Programme," aligning with global efforts to address climate change. The program encourages responsible production and consumption, incorporating renewable energy sources like solar lighting across police stations, colleges, barracks, outposts, and communities.

Additionally, the initiative promotes eco-friendly transportation within the police force, emphasizing the shift to electric and gas conversion vehicles. This move aims to reduce fuel consumption, air pollution, and enhance overall efficiency, fostering a healthier lifestyle for police personnel and the community.

The initiative extends its impact to waste and water management, integrating solar boreholes and waste-to-energy programs to reduce operational costs, generate employment, and maintain a cleaner environment. The Nigeria Police Force is also extending its reach beyond immediate concerns, illuminating communities with solar power to enhance security and address conflicts such as herder-farmer crises.

Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., expresses the importance of the Nigeria Police Green Initiative, especially in the context of the upcoming Twenty-eighth session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) on Climate Change. The initiative exemplifies the force's commitment to aligning climate action with law enforcement and security, positioning Nigeria as a leader in addressing climate change issues.

Major stakeholders, including the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, are actively supporting the take-off and sustainability of this green initiative.
