NNPC LTD COMPLETES REHABILITATION OF PORT HARCOURT REFINERY AREA 5 PLANT


NNPC Ltd Successfully Completes Rehabilitation of Port Harcourt Refinery Area 5 Plant


 The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd. proudly announces the mechanical completion and flare start-up of the Port Harcourt Refining Company's (PHRC) Area 5 Plant, achieving a major milestone in the rehabilitation project.



Under the leadership of Mr. Mele Kyari, Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., the company fulfilled its commitment to complete Phase One of the project by 31st December 2023. As of December 15th, 2023, 84.4% of Area 5 Plant and 77.4% of the entire rehabilitation project have been successfully completed.


During an inspection tour, Mr. Kyari expressed satisfaction, stating, "Today, we have kept those commitments," and commended the NNPC Ltd.'s staff and contractors for their dedication to the refinery's restoration.


Chief Pius Akinyelure, Chairman of NNPC Ltd Board, described the achievement as "historic" and emphasized the board's pride in the refinery's staff and management. He added, "We want to be at the highest level of production to keep petroleum prices stable and generate more revenue for our country."


Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, acknowledged the milestone as part of the renewed hope agenda and thanked Nigerians for their patience and trust in NNPC Ltd.'s capability.


The Minister of State for Petroleum (Gas), Rt. Hon. Ekperikpe Ekpo, highlighted the positive impact on the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry, emphasizing that the refinery's re-streaming will benefit the nation's cooking gas sector.


Fabio Del Cioppo, Managing Director of Tecnimont Nig. Ltd., reaffirmed his company's commitment to fulfilling the contract terms, acknowledging the significance of the achievement.


The PHRC rehabilitation project, with a budget of approximately $1.5 billion, encompasses Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning phases. The mechanical completion marks the closure of the Construction and Installation phases, all achieved with an outstanding Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) record of over 9.5 million manhours with zero Loss Time Injury (LTI)
