NSCDC FCT Command Cracks Down on Railway Vandals and Illegal Miners: Swift Action to Safeguard National Assets

In a resolute move to fulfill its mandate of preventing vandalism and protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, the NSCDC FCT Command has apprehended two railway vandals and eleven illegal miners.

Operatives from the Critical National Assets and Infrastructure unit of the command arrested the two railway vandals in the Wuye Area of the territory, where they were found willfully damaging rail tracks and traffic lights. In collaboration with the Nigerian Army, the Command arrested eleven suspects engaged in illegal mining activities at Izom, a community located on the boundary of FCT and Niger State.

Parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu emphasized that these proactive measures serve as a deterrent to criminals within the territory, declaring commitment to combating various forms of criminality, highlighting zero tolerance for vandalism, illegal mining, and other illicit activities in the FCT.

Odumosu stressed, "There is no plan to retreat on this mission as they must all be brought to book." He further warned that individuals or groups engaged in criminal activities, including vandalism of critical national assets, illegal mining, one-chance syndicates, scavengers, and kidnappers, will face stringent consequences within the FCT jurisdiction.

The Commandant underlined the economic impact of illegal mining, citing threats to the ecosystem, well-being of host communities, and substantial financial losses for the nation. The apprehended suspects are currently under investigation, and will be charged accordingly.

Commandant Odumosu assured the public of the NSCDC FCT Command's unwavering commitment to eradicating criminal activities within the territory, promising relentless efforts to identify and apprehend those undermining the safety and prosperity of citizens.
