Police Tragedy Unfolds: Inspector Shoots Colleague During Cult Raid


In a shocking turn of events in Ikponwosa/Egban community, Edo state, Police Inspector Jonathan Okouromi is on the run after allegedly shooting his colleague, Sergeant Abosele Akhere, during a Sunday night raid on a suspected cultists' hideout. Both officers were part of the Edo State Police Command.



The incident unfolded around 9 pm as operatives from the Edo State Police Anti-Kidnapping Squad and the Control Intelligence Rapid Response Squad conducted an operation to apprehend suspected cultists who had been terrorizing the community.


During the raid, Sergeant Akhere successfully arrested a notorious cultist known as 'Raggae.' However, tragedy struck when Inspector Okouromi reportedly shot Akhere from behind at point-blank range.


Eyewitnesses described the sudden and unexplained act, stating that Okouromi escaped immediately after realizing the fatal consequences of his actions. The wounded Akhere was rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.


The arrested cultist, 'Raggae,' also managed to escape, while another individual, Mr. Agbontaen Monday, a member of the Eiye confraternity, was apprehended.


As the search intensifies for the fugitive Inspector Okouromi, the body of the slain police sergeant has been deposited at the mortuary. Further investigations are underway to unravel the motive behind the tragic shooting that has sent shockwaves through the Edo State Police Command.
