TRACKLE YOUTH INVOLVEMENT WITH DRUGS IN LAGOS STATE

Symposium Tackles Youth Involvement with Drugs in Lagos State.

In a groundbreaking collaboration, Societal Concerns joined forces with the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Ministry of Health, National Orientation Agency, and the NDLEA to address the critical issue of youth involvement with drugs. The symposium, held at the Youth Centre in Abesan Estate, Alimosho Local Government, brought together key stakeholders, experts, and government officials.



The event, hosted by the Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Àdedamola R. Kasunmu, featured a distinguished guest speaker, Amb. Dr. Segun Osundairo, CEO of Arc-view Investment. Osundairo delivered a compelling address, shedding light on the alarming rise of drug-related issues among the youth.




Hon. Otunba Ademola Popoola, CEO of EMMAMPOP Ventures Limited, shared valuable insights during the symposium, emphasizing the role of private enterprises in addressing societal concerns. Zonal Commander Segun Oke, PhD, ACGN, brought a law enforcement perspective, highlighting the challenges faced by the NDLEA in combating drug abuse.


Dr. Mustafa Adedeji Tukur, Director of the National Orientation Agency Lagos, stressed the importance of awareness and education in preventing drug abuse. The symposium also welcomed the Special Guest of Honour, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, who expressed her commitment to supporting initiatives that protect the well-being of the youth.




The convener of the event, Amb. Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi David, underlined the urgency of addressing the "deadly cankerworm" of youth involvement with drugs. The symposium concluded with a collective call to action, urging all stakeholders to work collaboratively in implementing effective strategies and interventions to combat this societal challenge.



The symposium's theme, "Youth Involvement with Drugs: Arresting the Deadly Cankerworm," served as a rallying cry for all participants, signaling a shared commitment to safeguarding the future of the youth in Lagos State.
