The incident, occurring on January 17, resulted in three deaths, numerous injuries, and building destruction. The governor attributes the explosion to illegal miners storing explosives, dispelling rumors of banditry or insurgency involvement.
One victim has succumbed to injuries, raising the death toll to three. Makinde vows to hold those responsible accountable, emphasizing transparency .
However, residents were reportedly aware of illegal mining activities but failed to report them to authorities.
