Lagos State Police Unveils Notable Crime Crackdown


In a press briefing held at the Command Headquarters on January 17, 2024, Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, highlighted significant achievements in the fight against crime since assuming duty a month

The Commissioner reported the arrest of 37 suspects involved in crimes such as armed robbery, stealing, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms. A notable breakthrough included the recovery of 16 firearms, 72 live cartridges, 75 live ammunition, axes, daggers, cutlasses, vehicles, a POS machine, fake vehicle registration plates, and various charms.


Several cases were detailed:


1. Robbery and Unlawful Possession of Firearm: The arrest of Idowu Yunusa, recovering a locally made shotgun.

2. Unlawful Possession of Firearm:The apprehension of Damilola Ontinride with a locally fabricated baretta pistol.

3. Conspiracy, Armed Robbery, and Recovery of Arms: Toheeb Oyekunle, Victor Jimoh, Samuel Okanlawon, Segun Babatunde, Okeowo Tosin, and Mohammed Ibrahim were arrested in connection with an AK47 rifle snatching incident.

4. Conspiracy and Cultism: Arrest of individuals involved in cult-related activities, recovering multiple firearms, ammunition, and weapons.

5. Arrest of Traffic Robber: Lukmon Ojo was arrested for dispossessing individuals and using stolen property for bank transactions.

6. Enforcement of Motorcycle Ban: 1,050 motorcycles were impounded on prohibited routes.

7. Suspected Cultists:Multiple arrests of individuals planning cult-related retaliations, with recoveries of weapons.

8. Conspiracy and Stealing: Lukman Alabi arrested for the diversion of 600 bags of rice.

9. Conspiracy and Armed Robbery: Adebayo Ojo Micheal and cohorts arrested while attempting to dispossess an Uber driver, recovering a locally made single barrel cut-to-size gun.

10. Unlawful Possession of Firearm: Lukmon Jimoh arrested with a locally made pistol, toy pistol, cartridge, dagger, and axe.

11. Suspected Cultists: Arrests of individuals with a locally made pistol planning retaliations.

12. Robbery and Unlawful Possession of Firearm: Yahaya Abubakar arrested with a locally made double barrel pistol.

13. Occultic Practices: Arrest of individuals attempting to set up an occultic shrine.


CP Fayoade assured Lagosians of the Command's commitment to minimizing crime in the state, emphasizing continued operational efforts. All suspects are set to face charges at the conclusion of investigations.
