Lions Club International's Rich Legacy in Nigeria


In a press conference held at Radisson Blu Hotel on Friday, January 26, 2024, Lion Fabricio Oliveira, the First Vice President of Lions Club International, emphasized the remarkable impact the organization has made since its inception in 1917. Lions Club International, now the world's largest service organization, focuses on various crucial areas, including blindness prevention, sight preservation, youth development, environmental care, childhood cancer prevention, and hunger prevention.

Oliveira highlighted Lions Club International's significant presence in Nigeria, which began in 1964. Over the years, the organization has tirelessly served the poor, the needy, and the underprivileged in different communities across the country. Notable achievements include the construction of the largest and most modern motherless babies home in Lekki, Lagos, the establishment of eye centers in various parts of Lagos, Ota and Osun State, and the creation of diabetes centers and cancer screening centers in key medical facilities.

During his visit to Nigeria, Lion Fabricio Oliveira expressed his excitement about meeting Lions from Nigeria and Ghana. Over the next three days, discussions will revolve around strategies for growing membership, re-energizing service activities, and assessing community needs to enhance club service delivery. Recognizing the ever-changing world, Oliveira emphasized the need for Lions Club International to continuously re-evaluate its service and programs to meet evolving beneficiary and community needs.

Oliveira detailed the vision 1.5, focusing on strategies to increase awareness and participation in club activities across Nigeria. He particularly emphasized youth inclusion and the enrollment of professional bodies into the club. Leveraging technology and innovation, Oliveira expressed the club's readiness to amplify its impact in communities.



The press conference concluded with Lion Fabricio Oliveira expressing gratitude to club leaders and Lions of multiple districts in Nigeria and Ghana for their warm reception. He urged leaders to join forces in achieving vision 1.5, marking a commitment to a future where Lions Club International continues to be a beacon of service, impacting societies positively across the globe.
