Minister of Women Affairs Takes Swift Action on Allegations of Sexual Harassment in Nigerian Army

In response to a viral video detailing disturbing allegations of sexual harassment within the Nigerian Army, the Honorable Minister of Women Affairs, Barr Uju Kennedy Ohanenye, has embarked on a proactive approach to address the situation.

The video features Ruth Ogunleye, a female Army personnel, accusing her superiors, including Col IB Abdulkareem, Col GS Ogor, and Brig. Gen. IB Solebo, of subjecting her to unfair treatment, suspension of salary, and eviction from her apartment. Minister Ohanenye, expressing concern, asserts that such mistreatment of women should not be tolerated in a society that upholds gender balance and fairness.

The Minister has taken steps to engage with the Nigerian Army high Command, commending their discipline while urging a thorough investigation into the allegations. Notably, she emphasizes the need to protect women's interests and condemns any form of gender inequality.

Barr Uju has also requested the Army high Command to verify Ogunleye's claims, ensuring her safety and a neutral working environment during the investigation. The Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Nwachukwu Onyema, has assured the initiation of an inquiry, garnering praise from the Minister.

In a subsequent visit to the Army High Command in Abuja, Minister Ohanenye received updates on the Army's efforts to address the matter. Contrary to some of Ogunleye's claims, documented evidence revealed that her salary was paid up to December of the previous year. The Minister expressed satisfaction with the Army's commitment to resolving the issue and commended Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja for implementing measures for Ogunleye's rehabilitation.

As the investigation unfolds, the Minister of Women Affairs remains resolute in promoting the interests of Nigerian women, emphasizing the importance of a fair and just society for all.
