Nigeria to Launch Fully Automated Passport Application System on January 8, 2024


The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has announced that the long-awaited automation of the passport application process in Nigeria will commence on January 8, 2024. Citizens will have the convenience of applying and completing their passport application entirely online, eliminating the need for human contact.

Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in the system's readiness, stating, "We are good to go live." During an inspection of the facilities of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS alongside the Comptroller General, Wura-Ola Adepoju, he highlighted the significance of the initiative.


"We are starting the training, and on January 8, the solution will be live and direct for Nigerians to have a good feel, a sweet experience based on the Renewed Hope of Mr. President," Tunji-Ojo declared. He emphasized that the automation aims to reduce human contact in passport acquisition to a minimum.


The Minister assured that the implementation of the new system will not only streamline the application process but also enhance the overall security architecture of the country. The initiative aligns with the government's commitment to providing comfort and convenience to the citizens.


Nigerians can anticipate a smoother and more efficient passport application experience, as the nation takes a significant step towards modernizing its immigration services.
