NSIPA Dismisses Allegations of Financial Wrongdoing Involving Minister Betta Edu

In response to recent online media reports implicating the Honourable Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, in the ongoing investigations surrounding the alleged misappropriation of funds by the dismissed National Coordinator and CEO of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), Hajiya Halima Shehu, NSIPA and its management have vehemently distanced the Minister from any financial impropriety within the agency.

The Communications office of NSIPA released a statement on January 5, 2024, addressing the allegations and clarifying that Dr. Betta Edu had no involvement in any financial transactions or decisions currently under scrutiny at NSIPA. The agency emphasized the distinction between the suspended National Coordinator/CEO and the institution itself, asserting that the actions of the former do not reflect NSIPA's practices or principles.

The National Communications Manager, Hon. Jamaludeen Kabir, highlighted the agency's cooperation and collaboration under the guidance of the acting National Coordinator and CEO, Dr. Akindele Egbuwalo. The statement revealed that there is an uncovered plot to blackmail Minister Betta Edu, who exposed the alleged N44.8 billion fraud in NSIPA.

NSIPA underlined its commitment to accountability, transparency, and efficient service delivery, operating in strict adherence to due process and prudent financial management as outlined in its establishment act and directives of the Federal Executive Council. The agency urged the public and media outlets to verify facts before making assertions and emphasized that the Honourable Minister bears no responsibility for the current circumstances at NSIPA.

As the agency remains dedicated to implementing impactful and transparent social intervention programs aimed at uplifting vulnerable Nigerians, NSIPA reiterated its commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's renewed hope agenda. The news report concludes with NSIPA emphasizing its dedication to alleviating poverty and empowering communities across Nigeria, aligning with its mandate for socio-economic development.
