Police Uncover Kidnappers' Hideout, Recover Decomposed Bodies in Gombe Forest



In a daring operation on Monday, January 29th, 2024, the Imo State Police Command, led by Commissioner of Police Aboki Danjuma, in collaboration with local hunters, successfully raided a suspected kidnappers' hideout nestled in the dense forest between Avu and Ihiagwa.

The police arrested five individuals believed to be involved in the heinous activities. The suspects were identified as Muazu Awuta (30), Abdullahi Abubakar (32), Ozeru Sabo (25), Saddam Suleiman (27), and Bashir Yahaya (28), all hailing from Jau LGA of Jigawa State. This significant breakthrough was disclosed in a statement released by the Imo State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, on Tuesday.


The arrested suspects are currently undergoing thorough investigation, and they have reportedly shared valuable information that may lead to the apprehension of other syndicates involved in criminal activities.


During the combing of the forest, authorities discovered two decomposing bodies, suspected to be victims of kidnapping. Alongside the tragic find, various items such as telephones, wristwatches, shoes, and slippers were recovered. To establish the identity of the deceased, the command plans to conduct DNA confirmatory tests.


Additionally, the police seized five operational motorcycles believed to be owned and used by the alleged kidnappers.


The Imo State Police Command reassured the public that an intense operation is still ongoing, not only in the forest but also in other identified black spots. The overarching goal is to eradicate all forms of crime and criminality within the state, making it a safer place for residents.


As the investigation progresses, the Imo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims and holding the perpetrators accountable for their actions. The community is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to maintain a secure environment.
