In a decisive move to reorganize critical agencies and fortify the protection of Nigerian consumers, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has terminated the positions of two chief executive officers with immediate effect.

The affected executives are Mr. Babatunde Irukera, who served as the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), and Mr. Alexander Ayoola Okoh, the inaugural Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).

The decision, as outlined in a press statement released on Monday by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity in Abuja, underscores the President's commitment to restructuring and repositioning vital Federal Government agencies. This strategic initiative aims to safeguard the rights of Nigerian consumers and create a robust foundation for increased contributions to the nation’s economy by pivotal growth-enabling institutions.

As per the President's directive, the dismissed Chief Executives are mandated to hand over their responsibilities to the next most senior officers in their respective agencies. This transitional phase will remain in effect until the appointment of new Chief Executive Officers.

"By this directive of the President, their removal from office takes immediate effect," stated the press release.

The reshuffling of leadership within these critical agencies aligns with President Tinubu's vision for a more efficient and consumer-focused government, signaling a significant step toward enhancing Nigeria's economic landscape through key growth initiatives.
