PRESIDENT TINUBU SIGNS 2024 BUDGET AND KEY LEGISLATION WITH EMPHASIS ON ACCOUNTABILITY

President Tinubu Signs 2024 Budget and Key Legislation with Emphasis on Accountability

In a significant development at the State House, President Tinubu signed the 2024 budget into law, accompanied by key legislative acts, emphasizing a collaborative approach between the executive and legislative branches.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, addressing State House Correspondents, highlighted the commitment to oversight and accountability. He stated, "We welcome interrogation; it's good to have a monthly report from ministers or agencies, ensuring full budget implementation. Those found wanting will exit the administration."

Akpabio defended the adjustment of the budget from N27.5 trillion to N28.78 trillion, citing "verifiable justifications" by lawmakers. House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas disclosed that besides the 2024 Budget, President Tinubu also signed the 2023 Supplementary Budget, extended until March 31, and a bill addressing the controversial Ways and Means borrowing.

Abbas emphasized that the securitization of Ways and Means marks the end of such controversial borrowing methods. "President Tinubu assured Nigerians that this will be the last of this kind of ugly incident," Abbas declared.

Prominent figures present at the signing included National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, and House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation Chairman Abubakar Bichi.

This move signals a commitment to transparency and collaboration between the executive and legislative arms, with a focus on effective budget implementation and an end to controversial financial practices.
