SENIOR NIGERIAN UN OFFICER CRITICIZED SANWO-OLU HANDLING SOLDIER ARREST- CALL FOR FAIRNESS

Senior Nigerian UN Officer Criticizes Sanwo-olu's Handling of Soldier's Arrest, Calls for Fairness

In a recent viral video, Governor Sanwo-olu's arrest of a soldier for violating traffic rules by riding an okada on the wrong route has sparked controversy. A Senior Nigerian Officer from ONDO STATE, currently serving under the United Nations, expressed concern over the incident.

The officer highlighted the challenging environments many soldiers face, with some deployed in Sambisa forest and Borno, facing perilous situations. He emphasized that despite the sacrifices made, soldiers remain silent about their experiences. The officer questioned the disproportionate attention given to a soldier's traffic violation compared to the silence surrounding more significant challenges faced by the military.

Furthermore, the senior officer acknowledged a similar incident where Minister Fashola arrested a Colonel but commended the minister for handling it with humility. He called for fairness in dealing with military personnel, emphasizing that disciplinary actions should be taken with respect and understanding of the sacrifices made by soldiers.

This response sheds light on the complexities of military service and calls for a more nuanced approach in dealing with incidents involving uniformed personnel. As discussions around the video continue, it raises questions about the broader treatment of soldiers and the need for a balanced perspective on their challenges and contributions.
