President Tinubu Orders Release of Food Reserves to Tackle Rising Food Costs

In a bid to alleviate the growing challenges of high food prices in Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate release of over 102,000 metric tons of various grains from the National Food Reserve and the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria.

President, Federal Republic of Nigeria

The announcement was made by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, following a series of meetings held by the Special Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention at the Aso Rock Villa.

Idris revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has been directed to release approximately 42,000 metric tons of maize, millet, garri, and other essential commodities from their strategic reserve, with an immediate effect. Additionally, discussions with the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria have led to the assurance of 60,000 metric tons of rice being made available to the public.

Furthermore, the Tinubu administration stands ready to import additional food supplies if necessary, as an interim measure to address any shortages observed after the release of the food items.
