The Nigerian High Commission in South Africa has released a security alert for Nigerian citizens in anticipation of the upcoming 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final clash between Nigeria's Super Eagles and South Africa's Bafana Bafana.
In a statement issued on Monday, February 5, 2024, the High Commission noted concerning online remarks and veiled threats against Nigerians from certain quarters in South Africa.
As a precautionary measure, the High Commission urged Nigerian residents to exercise caution in their speech, choose safe venues for viewing the game, and avoid engaging in disruptive or provocative behavior in the event of a victory for the Super Eagles.
