AGEGE RENEWED HOPE MOVEMENT: REVIVING THE SPIRIT OF HISTORIC TOWN

Agege Renewed Hope Movement: Reviving the Spirit of a Historic Town

When the annals of historic towns in Lagos are recounted, Agege inevitably emerges within the top ranks. Though it wasn't part of Lagos at Nigeria's independence in 1960, it later transitioned under the umbrella of the newly formed Lagos State in 1967.

Agege, beyond its historical significance, serves as a cultural hub, welcoming Nigerians of diverse backgrounds, tribes, and faiths. Positioned along the old narrow-gauge railway, it once thrived as a bustling hub for people, goods, and ideas. As Ikeja rose as the capital of Lagos State, Agege became a preferred residential enclave for civil servants and professionals, transforming into a cherished 'home' for many.

Yet, amidst the tales of success and nostalgia encapsulated in 'my Agege story,' concerns loom over the town's current trajectory. Former residents lament its decline, witnessing once vibrant neighborhoods deteriorate, and cherished spaces succumb to neglect. Where academic pursuits once flourished, today's youth grapple with vices like drug abuse and petty crime, compounded by inadequate infrastructure and dimly lit streets.

In response, a coalition of passionate indigenes and prominent personalities, both local and abroad, has rallied under the banner of the Agege Renewed Hope Movement. Their mission: to reclaim Agege's lost glory and reignite the aspirations of its residents, young and old alike.

With a wealth of talent spanning public service, business, sports, and the arts, Agege holds immense promise. The movement's inception signals a clarion call for unity among indigenes and residents, urging collective action to rejuvenate and elevate Agege to its rightful place of honor.

The Agege Renewed Hope Movement beckons—a beacon of optimism for a town poised to reclaim its legacy.
