Aliko Dangote Launches Food Intervention Programme, Distributes 120,000 Bags of Rice in Kano

Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, initiated a food intervention programme in Kano over the weekend, underscoring his commitment to tackling economic challenges in Nigeria. The programme, spearheaded by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), commenced with the distribution of 120,000 bags of rice, marking the beginning of a larger initiative costing close to N15 billion.

During the official launch event, Dangote emphasized the significance of compassion, particularly during Ramadan, urging collective efforts to combat hunger nationwide. The intervention, scheduled from March to early April 2024, aims to reach vulnerable communities across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria, irrespective of demographic attributes.

Collaborating with state and local authorities, as well as community partners, the programme ensures equitable distribution of rice to those in need. Additionally, the ADF is providing 10,000 iftar meals during Ramadan in Kano Municipality, supplementing its ongoing bread relief programme, which has distributed over 32,000 family-size loaves daily since 2020.

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, commended Dangote's initiative and urged other affluent individuals and businesses to emulate such gestures, highlighting the impact on alleviating economic hardships.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director, emphasized the Foundation's unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, extending its philanthropic efforts beyond food relief to encompass nutrition strengthening and health initiatives.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation's broader mission encompasses humanitarian relief, education, and economic empowerment, not only in Nigeria but also across Africa and globally. It calls for collective action from individuals, institutions, and governments to address systemic challenges and promote social justice and inclusivity.

As the foundation continues its impactful interventions, it advocates for sustained support from well-meaning Nigerians and intensified government efforts to foster economic growth and poverty reduction.
