CUSTOMS OFFICERS THWART SMUGGLING ATTEMPT AMIDST VIOLET ATTACK BY SMUGGLERS

Customs Officers Thwart Smuggling Attempt Amidst Violent Attack by Smugglers

In a daring operation on Sunday, March 17, 2024, officers from the Adamawa/Taraba Command of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted smugglers on the Mubi-Sahuda road, preventing the illegal trafficking of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) across territorial borders.

According to a statement released by Naomi Titus, the public relations officer of the command, the officers intercepted three tricycles loaded with suspected smuggled PMS destined for the Republic of Cameroon. However, their efforts were met with fierce resistance from the smugglers, who launched a violent attack in an attempt to set fire to both the officers and their official vehicles.

Despite the onslaught, a call for reinforcement brought the Nigerian Army to the scene, preventing what could have been a disaster. Regrettably, one officer sustained severe injuries, and an operational vehicle's windshield was shattered during the assault.

Nevertheless, the determined team managed to secure, evacuate, and seize 45x25L jerry cans of PMS, thwarting the smuggling attempt and ensuring the safety of the officers involved. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in combating illegal activities at territorial borders.
