Police Service Commission Chair Condemns Killings of Officers in Imo and Delta States

Dr. Solomon Arase, Executive Chairman of the Police Service Commission, has strongly condemned the recent killings of police officers on duty in Imo and Delta States. In a press statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani and released online, the Commission expressed dismay at the wave of violence targeting officers, emphasizing their rights as Nigerian citizens to support, encouragement, and protection.

The statement also extended condolences to Inspector General of Police, Dr. Olukayode Egbetokun, highlighting the need for unity in combating militancy and banditry nationwide. Dr. Arase, a retired Inspector General of Police, urged a reassessment of state command leadership capabilities to prevent further casualties.

Emphasizing accountability, Dr. Arase stressed the importance of consequences for incompetence within state police leadership, advocating for the removal of any commissioner found lacking in operational effectiveness. He called for integrated intelligence policing and encouraged officers not to lose morale in the face of adversity, but to maintain the resilient spirit for which the force is renowned.

The statement concluded with condolences to the families of slain officers and a call for heightened vigilance among state command commissioners to confront this escalating threat.
