Nigeria Customs Service Mourns Fallen Personnel in Katsina State, Reaffirms Commitment to Border Security

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Customs Assistant II Auwal Haruna, who tragically lost his life during a confrontation at the Gamji Makaho checkpoint in the Dankama area of Katsina State on April 17, 2024.

The incident unfolded as customs officers from the Katsina Area Command attempted to intercept a convoy of over fifty vehicles suspected of transporting goods illegally across borders. Haruna and his colleagues displayed remarkable courage in their efforts to combat economic sabotage. However, their actions led to a clash with an enraged mob, resulting in the fatal assault of CA II Auwal Haruna. He has since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Kayawa, under the Dutsi Local Government Area of Katsina state.

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, and the entire NCS community extend their deepest condolences to the family of CA II Auwal Haruna. The CGC condemns the senseless act of violence and pledges a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.

Highlighting the challenges faced by officers in safeguarding the nation's borders, the CGC reassures the public of the NCS's unwavering commitment to border security. The NCS remains resolute in its mission to combat illegal activities such as smuggling while prioritizing the safety of citizens and dedicated customs personnel.
