Nigeria Customs Service Strengthens Collaboration with Benin Republic Counterpart

In a bid to bolster the enduring partnership between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and its counterpart in the Republic of Benin, a high-level delegation led by Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR embarked on a significant mission. On Thursday, 11th April 2024, the delegation convened with the Director-General of the Benin Republic Customs Administration.

The primary agenda of the meeting, articulated by the CGC, centered on deliberating strategies to enhance trade activities between the two nations and ensure the seamless execution of previously discussed recommendations from their rendezvous in Cotonou.

Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, the CGC stated, "We recognize the established framework for cooperation between our customs administrations, set at a higher level by the authorities of both Presidents Patrice Talon of Benin and His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria. It is upon this foundation that the customs of both nations are unified in their endeavors."

In a warm reception, Mrs. Adidjatou Hassan Zanouvi, Director-General of Benin Customs Administration, reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to implementing the agreed-upon measures, stressing the need for vigilant monitoring for effective execution.

According to her, the collaborative efforts between the Nigeria Customs Service and Benin Republic Customs Administration exemplify their shared dedication to facilitating smooth trade operations and efficiently managing cross-border activities for the mutual benefit of both countries.

During the visit, the CGC also took the opportunity to inspect ongoing projects within the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command. Accompanied by Customs Area Controller Comptroller Timi Bomodi, the CGC meticulously evaluated the project's progress and received assurances of diligent oversight from the responsible authorities.
