Police Launch Investigation into Deadly Stampede at Senator Wamakko's House During Palliative Distribution

The Sokoto State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the tragic stampede that occurred at Senator Aliyu Wamakko’s residence. The incident, which took place during the distribution of palliatives for Ramadan, resulted in the death of nine people and left over 30 others injured.
Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, expressed grief over the incident, highlighting the unintended consequences of what was meant to be an act of generosity. He emphasized the need for caution in distributing free goods amid the country's economic challenges.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state also confirmed the incident and called for compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured. They urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The Sokoto State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the incident but stated that there was no official casualty figure yet. Investigation into the matter has commenced, although no decision has been made regarding questioning Senator Wamakko."
