8th AMSAY Conference Triumphs,  Holistic Solutions for Maritime Students and Cadets




Platforms Communications successfully hosted the 8th Annual Maritime Students And Youth AMSAY Conference in Lagos, gathering key stakeholders to address the persistent challenges facing maritime students and cadets in Nigeria.



 Themed "Exploring Holistic Approach Towards Solving the Challenges of Nigerian Maritime Students/Cadets," the conference aimed to identify and proffer lasting solutions to the barriers hindering the career progress of both seafaring and non-seafaring maritime students.


The event, which also marked the 10th anniversary of Platforms Communications, saw notable figures from the maritime industry in attendance. Among them were Former DG of NIMASA, Barr Temisan Omatseye; Secretary-General of the African Shipowners Association, Barr Funmi Folurunsho; Secretary-General of Abuja MOU, Capt Sunday Umoren; and the Pioneer President of the Nigerian Shipowners Association (NISA), Chief Isaac Jolapomo.


Other distinguished attendees included Capt Fola Ojutalayo, Maritime Consultant; Mrs. Macfoy Rollens, COO of Ocean Deep Services Ltd; Chief Carolyn Akum Ufere, Continental Vice President of African Women in Maritime; and representatives from key maritime organizations such as the Nigerian Shippers Council, NIWA, AMES, and various maritime law firms and service companies.


The conference focused on a comprehensive approach to solving the myriad of challenges that maritime students and cadets face. Discussions ranged from educational and training inadequacies to issues of sea-time opportunities, which are crucial for the practical experience needed by cadets. Stakeholders emphasized the need for collaborative efforts between government bodies, educational institutions, and private sector participants to create a more supportive environment for the maritime workforce of the future.



"The AMSAY Conference is a critical platform for addressing the pressing issues in maritime education and training. Our collective efforts today will pave the way for a more robust maritime industry in Nigeria," said Barr Temisan Omatseye during his keynote address.


The event's success was a testament to Platforms Communications' decade-long commitment to innovation and excellence in the maritime sector. As the organization celebrates its 10th anniversary, its achievements in fostering dialogue and collaboration within the industry were lauded by all present.
