Nigeria Customs Service Partners with China Customs to Boost Trade Relations


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has taken a significant step towards enhancing trade relations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (GACC).



Led by Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC. Adewale Adeniyi, the NCS management team convened in Shenzhen on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, to formalize the bilateral partnership. Emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties with China, CGC Adeniyi highlighted the potential for mutual benefit in import-export operations and emphasized the positive impact on Nigerian micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises,MSMEs.


Acknowledging the significance of the collaboration, CGC Adeniyi expressed gratitude to Vice Minister Wang Lingjun of the General Administration of Customs for their interest in partnering with the NCS. He also commended the growth of e-commerce, noting its role in facilitating business opportunities for Nigerian companies and SMEs.


The MoU between NCS and GACC is poised to become a cornerstone of cooperative security and trade relations between the two countries. CGC Adeniyi reiterated the commitment to establishing a collaborative mechanism for supply chain security standards and promoting economic stability.



In his address, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the importance of China as a key trading partner for Nigeria, noting the significant volume of trade between the two nations. He underscored the need to address informal trade channels while leveraging formal trade opportunities to enhance bilateral relations.


Mr. Wang Lingjun, representing Vice Minister Sun Yuning, expressed satisfaction with CGC Adeniyi's vision for the partnership. He affirmed that the collaboration between NCS and GACC would create opportunities to address a wide range of economic issues and facilitate trade between Nigeria and China.


The signing of the MoU marks a pivotal moment in strengthening trade relations between Nigeria and China, paving the way for increased collaboration and economic growth for both nations.
