Nigerian Police Arrest Suspect in $216,000 and ₦30 Million Fraud Case Involving Thai Citizen
Detectives from the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) have arrested Chimereze Chinedu for allegedly defrauding a Thai citizen of $216,000. The suspect reportedly convinced the victim to pay for 37 tricycles, which he never delivered.
Chinedu's scheme didn't end there. He allegedly forged documents from the Lagos SCID, claiming the tricycles had been seized by the police. He then extorted an additional ₦30 million from the victim, promising to secure the release of the tricycles.
The arrest took place on May 10, 2024, following an intensive investigation supported by INTERPOL. Chinedu is currently in detention as the investigation continues to identify and apprehend any accomplices.
The Lagos State Police Command remains dedicated to tackling internet fraud and ensuring justice is served.
