Glo Sponsors as Adekunle Gold Discusses Sickle Cell Advocacy on CNN’s African Voices Playmakers



This week on African Voices Playmakers, a magazine show sponsored by leading telecommunications company Globacom on CNN,  Afropop musician Adekunle Gold, born Adekunle Almaruf Kosoko, will delve into his advocacy for sickle cell disease.


Known for his intricate lyrics and distinctive performances, Adekunle Gold opens up to CNN correspondent and show anchor Larry Madowo about overcoming the challenges of sickle cell disease and rising to the top of the music industry. In this first in-depth, emotional interview on the subject, Gold discusses how living with the illness has shaped his mission to spread awareness and mobilize support for others coping with the condition.


Gold, who holds a Higher National Diploma in Arts and Design from Lagos State Polytechnic, launched his career with the hit song “Sade” in 2015, earning a nomination for the Headies Best Alternative Song. His debut  reached number seven on the Billboard World Albums chart, and he secured a record deal with YBNL Nation. Over the years, he has released several successful albums, including his latest, “Tequila Ever After” in 2023.


Married to fellow singer Simi since 2019, Adekunle Gold has received numerous accolades, such as Songwriter of the Year at the 2023 Headies and Album of the Year at the City People Entertainment Awards.


Catch African Voices Playmakers on DSTV Channel 401 this Saturday at 8:30 a.m., with reruns at noon,  4:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. The episode will also air Monday at 4 a.m., Saturday at noon , Sunday at 4:30 a.m. and 7 p.m., and again Monday at 4 a.m.
