AIG Basil O. Idegwu, Ph.D., Assumes Role as Sixth Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 14


The Nigeria Police Force has announced the appointment of AIG Basil O. Idegwu, Ph.D., as the Sixth Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 14, headquartered in Katsina and overseeing the Kaduna and Katsina States Police Commands.


AIG Idegwu, an indigene of Ute/Erumu Town in Ika North East LGA of Delta State, brings a robust academic background with a B.A. (Hons) from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and both an M.A. and Ph.D. in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Ibadan. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 1992 as a member of Cadet ASP Course 17.

Throughout his distinguished career, AIG Idegwu has held several key positions, including Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Planning, Deputy Commissioner of Police for Federal Operations at Force Headquarters, and Area Commander in Brass, Bayelsa State, among others. He has been actively involved in national and international police operations over the past eight years, serving on committees such as the Multi-agency Coordination of Security for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the Presidential Intervention on COVID-19.


AIG Idegwu's extensive experience is expected to be instrumental in managing the complex security landscape of Zone 14, particularly in the volatile regions of Kaduna and Katsina States. He is known for his commitment to excellence, as evidenced by numerous awards and commendations for his service.


Married with children, AIG Idegwu enjoys playing squash, reading, and swimming in his leisure time.
