The Lagos State Government announced a partnership with Stagecraft Studios and Film Production Ltd. to stage the play "Kurunmi," aimed at preserving African culture and fostering youth leadership through arts and entertainment.

During a press conference at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs. Toke Benson-Awoyinka, shared the government's commitment to promoting historical heritage and cultural awareness. "Kurunmi," written by the late Prof. Ola Rotimi, delves into themes of political and military leadership, social change, and responsible governance.

Scheduled performances include shows at Alliance Française on June 13 and 14 and Terra Kulture Arena on July 20 and 21. The play, directed by Mr. Oladapo Muyideen (Lala), will also tour the five IBILE divisions of Lagos State.

Benson-Awoyinka emphasized that arts and entertainment play a crucial role in cultural rebirth and reorientation, aligning with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's THEMES+ agenda. "This captivating stage play, Kurunmi, showcases our rich cultural heritage and the creativity of our theater practitioners," she said.

Highlighting the importance of arts in promoting tourism, she added, "By attending this play, you will gain a deeper understanding of our cultural heritage. The talented cast, stunning costumes, and impressive set design will transport you to a world of wonder and awe."

Director Oladapo Muyideen and production team members Michelle Adegbola and Biodun Abe praised the government's support, noting that "Kurunmi" promotes Yoruba cultural heritage and serves as a reminder of traditional values. Adegbola added that the play encourages youth to stay connected to their cultural roots despite technological advancements.

Partners such as Rite Food, Omnicon Media Group, and TOLARAM Group expressed their commitment to the project, believing strongly in its cultural significance.
