Lagos Now Competes with African Countries, Says Sanwo-Olu’s Aide

Governor's Administration Praised for  Achievements Over Five Years

Lagos State is now competing with leading African nations, according to Mr. Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publicity. In an interview on News Central Television’s Breakfast Xtra programme, Akosile highlighted the transformative impact of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration, citing significant progress across various sectors under the THEMES+ developmental agenda.

Akosile emphasized that Lagos's advancements in infrastructure, social services, and democratic dividends position it alongside countries like Ethiopia, Morocco, and South Africa. He noted that the administration's focus on Traffic Management and Transportation, Health and Environment, Education and Technology, and other key areas have markedly improved the living standards of Lagos residents.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic was instrumental not only for Lagos but for neighboring countries as well,” Akosile stated, adding that the state's health facilities now rank among the top ten in Africa. “This comparison with countries rather than states underscores Lagos's exceptional progress.”

Key achievements include the completion of the Blue and Red rail lines, making Lagos the only sub-national entity in Africa to undertake such projects. The administration has also addressed the longstanding Apapa gridlock, enhancing business operations in the area.

In the housing sector, the Sanwo-Olu administration has introduced more housing units than any previous government, while efforts to maintain environmental sanitation have been strengthened. Akosile pointed out that initiatives led by the Ministry of Environment have effectively managed residential issues under bridges and other areas, always ensuring due process and avoiding homelessness.

The administration’s commitment to security is evident through significant investments and the effective operations of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Watch, making Lagos the safest state in Nigeria.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration has delivered on its promises, driving Lagos’s development to compete on a continental level,” Akosile concluded.
