NDC Nigeria and FUPRE Forge Strategic Alliance with MOU Signing

In response to ongoing challenges such as crude oil theft, facility sabotage, and illegal refining that have hampered Nigeria's position as the second-largest oil producer in Africa, the Center for Strategic Research and Studies CSRS of the National Defence College, NDC Nigeria has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MOU with the Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun FUPRE.

Representing Rear Admiral OM Olotu, the esteemed Commandant of the NDC. Professor A.O. Ahmed emphasized the significance of this collaboration, highlighting the potential for groundbreaking advancements in maritime security and sustainable economic development. He commended Rear Admiral Olotu's vision and dedication to fostering strategic partnerships that benefit both military and academic

In his Charge to the Committee Chairman, Professor Ahmed also issued a directive to Professor EC Kennedy, Chairman of the Committee on Internationalization, Investment, Cooperation, Linkages, and Collaboration.  

Counting on entrusting with the crucial task of driving this MoU forward, Professor Ahmed stated that there his efforts will be instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of our collaborative initiatives, which are vital for enhancing maritime security and harnessing the blue economy's potential."

It is the New Chapter for Maritime Excellence as The MoU between NDC, Nigeria, and FUPRE aims to facilitate joint research, academic exchanges, and the development of specialized training programs. 


This partnership is set to create innovative solutions to maritime challenges, bolster Nigeria's coastal defenses, and promote sustainable use of ocean 





The signing ceremony marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria's efforts to lead in maritime security and the blue economy, showcasing the nation's commitment to progress and international cooperation.




 The collaboration will focus on several key areas, including environmental security, maritime research and training, workshops, marginal oil field development, and other innovative capacity-building courses of national interest.



Professor Ahmed on behalf of the commander encouraged Professor Kennedy with the responsibility of ensuring the MOU’s effective implementation. "This partnership represents a pivotal step towards addressing the multifaceted challenges facing Nigeria's oil sector and fostering a secure and sustainable environment for future generations,


FUPRE, established in 2007 and recognized as the first petroleum university in Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa, and the sixth in the world, will bring its specialized knowledge and expertise to the collaboration. The university is dedicated to advancing research and development in the petroleum sector, crucial to Nigeria's economy.


NDC, Nigeria founded in 1992, is the highest academic military institution in Nigeria and West Africa, known for its strategic academic programs, military policies, and research for development. This collaboration with FUPRE is expected to enhance the capabilities of both institutions in addressing pressing national issues.





The MOU aims to achieve the objectives of both FUPRE and CSRS-NDC in delivering joint research and development initiatives, maritime research and training, workshops, and innovative capacity development, with a particular focus on the blue economy and climate change.
