Commissioner Ogunlende Engages Ikeja Youth, Emphasizes Government Connection at "Ounje Eko" Distribution

That unexpected move, Mr. Mobolaji Abubakar Ogunlende, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, took time out of his demanding schedule to meet with the youth of Ikeja during the distribution of the "Ounje Eko" initiative at the local sports center on Friday. This engagement underscores his commitment to bridging the gap between the government and the community.

Addressing the gathering, Commissioner Ogunlende expressed his delight at the opportunity to interact directly with the youth, highlighting the importance of such engagements. "As your Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, it's a pleasure to be here," he began, responding to remarks about his presence being a first for many attendees. "If that is the only thing that our team achieved by coming here, by somebody saying they have seen their commissioner, then I've done a good job for youth."

Ogunlende acknowledged the typical disconnection felt between the government and the populace, stressing the necessity of such grassroots interactions. "It's not just about being in the office, signing files, saying I'm a commissioner for youth; this is what it is, engagement, engagement," he emphasized. "A lot of people would say there's a disconnect between the government and the people, so what I try to do whenever I'm given the opportunityto just bridge that gap."

He underscored the significance of practical involvement over mere rhetoric, stating, "It's not about when I go and I speak all the grammar on TV and all of that, no, this is the real stuff." Commissioner Ogunlende also took the opportunity to echo the efforts of youth representation in governmental initiatives, highlighting the inclusion of youth seats on the intervention program set up by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

"Most of you here, this is not about APC, it's not about PDP, it's not about Labour. Look, when it's time for elections, we can do all of that stuff. Nigeria has the reason to get it right. Africa has the reason to get it right. So charity begins at home. So this is our home and we must get it right," Ogunlende remarked, emphasizing the non-partisan nature of development and engagement.

The "Ounje Eko" initiative, aimed at alleviating hunger and supporting the less privileged, provided a fitting backdrop for Ogunlende's message. His presence and words resonated with the youth, marking a significanta step towards more inclusive and participatory governance in Lagos State.

In closing, Commissioner Ogunlende thanked the audience for their time and reiterated his commitment to continuous engagement and development. "I'm just here to say good afternoon and thank you very much," he concluded, leaving the youth of Ikeja with a renewed sense of connection and hope.

This visit not only reinforced Ogunlende’s dedication to youth development but also served as a reminder of the power of direct interaction between government officials and the communities they serve.
