Dangote Cement Okpella Signs Landmark Community Development Agreement


Dangote Cement in Okpella, Edo State, has signed a Community Development Agreement (CDA) with its host communities, emphasizing its commitment to local development and well-being. The signing ceremony was praised by both the Edo State and federal governments as a proactive step towards fostering peaceful co-existence and growth.


At the ceremony, Okpella Plant Director Mr. Mohammed Ismaeel highlighted the company's adherence to the Minerals and Mining Act, 2007, and the Minerals and Mining Regulation, 2011. He described the agreement as a demonstration of Dangote Cement’s dedication to being a responsible corporate entity and promoting harmonious relationships with its host communities.


The CDA includes plans for infrastructure development, educational scholarships, healthcare improvements, economic empowerment programs, and enhanced access to water and electricity. It establishes a framework for ongoing dialogue, grievance management, and mutual obligations, aiming to address both immediate and future social issues.


Edo State Commissioner for Mines and Energy, Hon. Donatus Ojiefoh, representing Governor Godwin Obaseki, commended the company for its peaceful approach and assured support for investors in the state. The Chairman of Etsako East Local Government, Mrs. Benedicta Atu, and High Chief Afiabor Peter of the Ukhomunyio Council of Village Heads also expressed their support, highlighting the benefits of the agreement for all parties involved.


The CDA signing marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Dangote Cement and its host communities, setting the stage for collaborative development and sustained mutual benefits.
