The Ipodo community expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club for their recent environmental sanitation initiative aimed at raising awareness about the fight against cholera. This marks the first activity of the club in the new Lion year under the leadership of Lion Victor Aylor,NLCF and the supervision of the service chairperson, Lion Engr. Collins Osian MJF, NLCF, Jp

The campaign, focused on sanitizing the community and educating residents on cholera prevention, was warmly received by the local populace. The majority of Ipodo's residents are involved in the food industry, running restaurants and cafeterias of various classes. Emeka Joseph, a local cafeteria owner, praised the Lions Club's efforts, noting that such proactive measures are unusual and will significantly benefit his business by ensuring a cleaner and healthier environment for his customers.


The community's reaction to the campaign was overwhelmingly positive, with many residents expressing their appreciation and admiration for the Lions Club's commitment to their promises. The initiative has been seen as a tangible fulfillment of the club's pledge to support the community, leading many to sing the praises of the organization, describing it as a case of "promise made, promise kept."


Lion Franklin Udah, the Charter President, explained the club’s connection to the community, saying, “We are an Ikeja-based club, and our service area is the Ikeja environs. One of our members, whose business is located here in Ipodo Community, brought to our notice the need in the community, and we needed to identify with them on environmental issues, which is why we are here today.

Emphasizing the club’s commitment to sustainability, “Sustainability is key for us; we won’t invest so much and let it go down the drain.” He highlighted the club’s plan for ongoing environmental service in the area, saying, “Over time, we will continue to come here to do what we’ve done today again and again, and also target other environments around here.”


 


Lateef Yusuf Apena, community leader representing the Baale in Ipodo, praised the club for keeping its promises, saying, “They came to us and asked what we needed, and we told them to sanitize, build public toilets, and other projects. They promised to come today to identify the areas to clear, and they fulfilled their promises.” demanding for public toilets in the community to enable  sanitation improvement and they agreed to pick up the project immediately.

Lion Jennifer Onwuta, the immediate past president of the club, expressed satisfaction with the recent community service activity, stating, “Today’s activity is a success. With the people moving around, I think we should have reached quite a number of over 500 .” She added, “We are hoping that what we have done will be told to other people who are yet to resume offices. It is a positive one for us.”

In addition to the sanitation efforts, residents are hopeful for the club's future plans, particularly the construction of public toilets in the community. Many have voiced their prayers and support for the Lions Club, hoping that this crucial infrastructure project will soon become a reality, further enhancing the community's health and well-being.


The Vice President, Lion Ameachi on behalf of the President echoes “Service First” reflecting on the successful launch of the anti-cholera campaign, reiterating the club's dedication to fulfilling its commitments and continuing to support the Ipodo community in meaningful ways. The Lions Club's initiative not only addresses immediate health concerns but also fosters a sense of trust and partnership between the organization and the residents.


This commendable start under Aylor's leadership signals a promising year ahead for the Lagos Metropolitan Lions Club and the Ipodo community, as both look forward to a continued collaborative effort towards a healthier and more prosperous environment.
