AIG Yetunde Alonge, First Female Police Secretary, Retires Amidst Celebrations and Calls for Reforms


Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Yetunde Alonge, the first female Police Secretary in Nigeria, officially retired from the Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday, coinciding with her 60th birthday. The dual celebration was marked by a grand pull-out ceremony attended by her colleagues, superiors, family, and friends, all of whom gathered to honor her trailblazing career and enduring legacy.


In an interview with ‘Societal Concerns News’AIG Alonge expressed deep gratitude to those who supported her throughout her 35 years of service. She acknowledged the role of her colleagues, superiors, and family in her journey, emphasizing that their unwavering support made her achievements possible.


Reflecting on her career, Alonge expressed her desire to be remembered for her commitment to inclusivity, integrity, and honor. "My journey in the Nigeria Police Force has been defined by these principles," she said. "I have always strived to ensure that everyone is treated with fairness and respect, and that our actions are guided by ethical standards."


Alonge also highlighted the progress made by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) but stressed the need for further reforms. She called for increased training for officers to ensure they are more civil in their interactions with the public and better equipped to serve rather than be served. "We are here for the security and safety of this nation," she stated, "and it is essential that our officers have the knowledge and skills necessary to fulfill this mission."
