EFCC Detains NAHCON Chair and Secretary Over Alleged Mismanagement of N90 Billion Hajj Subsidy
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained the Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Jalal Arabi, and Secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora, over allegations of mismanaging the N90 billion allocated for the 2024 Hajj subsidy.
The investigation revealed that Arabi and other officials were overpaid far beyond the approved operational costs, with over SR314,000 recovered so far.
Additionally, SR8.6 million remains unaccounted for. The EFCC continues its investigation, scrutinizing financial irregularities and abuse of office in the commission's handling of funds intended to ease the financial burden on Nigerian pilgrims.
As of now, there has been no official response from the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) regarding the EFCC's detention of its Chairman, Jalal Arabi, and Secretary, Abdullahi Kontagora, over the alleged mismanagement of the N90 billion Hajj subsidy.
The investigation is still ongoing, and it is expected that NAHCON may issue a formal statement as developments unfold.
