Fire Destroys Apartment at Lagos State Government Staff Quarters, Ogba

A fire broke out early Friday morning at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Lagos, causing extensive damage to a two-bedroom apartment.

The blaze, which started around 2:20 a.m., severely damaged one of the apartments in Flat 5, Block 21, within the two-story building. According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire was triggered by an electrical surge in the children’s room.

The fire resulted in the complete destruction of the children's room and significant property damage, estimated to be worth millions of naira. Despite the extensive damage, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, praised the swift response from emergency services, including LASEMA’s Response Team (LRT), the Nigerian Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, which successfully contained and extinguished the fire before it could spread further.

"The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured that the fire was quickly contained and extinguished," Oke-Osanyitolu said. "Fortunately, there was no loss of life or injuries."

Following the incident, residents were educated on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences. Emergency personnel remained on the scene until 5 a.m. to ensure the situation was fully under control.
