LASBCA Hosts Building Sector Stakeholders Engagement Forum, Emphasizes Professionalism and Private Sector Collaboration

The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) recently organized a Building Sector Stakeholders Engagement Forum, themed *“Professionalism Across Board in the Built Environment.”* The event, which took place in Lagos, gathered key players in the construction and urban development sectors, including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Hon. Sylvester Ogunkelu, Chairman of the House Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Development, and Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, Special Adviser on e-GIS and Urban Development.

Governor Sanwo-Olu delivered a keynote address focusing on the critical role of professionals in the building sector and the necessity of forging strong partnerships with private sector entities to enhance the quality and safety of construction projects across the state. He emphasized the importance of adhering to professional standards in the built environment, calling on landowners and residents to be vigilant and report any unprofessional activities at construction sites. “Being your neighbor's keeper means speaking up when you see something wrong, especially in a sector where lives and safety are at stake,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, in his remarks to Societal Concerns Media, highlighted LASBCA’s strategic efforts to maintain building safety and quality across Lagos. He noted that LASBCA has established district offices in every local government area, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to grassroots-level oversight.

Dr. Babatunde also underscored the importance of collaboration between government and private sector professionals, noting that while the state’s construction oversight staff is limited compared to the vast number of ongoing projects, the involvement of private sector professionals, under government supervision, would be crucial in maintaining control and ensuring compliance with regulations.

The forum, managed by Arc. Gbolahun Owodunni Oki, General Manager of LASBCA, provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges, share insights, and explore ways to enhance professionalism in the industry. The event concluded with a call for continuous engagement and collaboration among all stakeholders to ensure the safety, durability, and sustainability of buildings in Lagos State.

This engagement forum marks a significant step forward in the ongoing efforts to improve building practices and safeguard the built environment in Lagos, highlighting the critical role of professionalism and private sector cooperation in achieving these goals.
