The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have announced a renewed commitment to enhancing their collaboration in managing traffic across Lagos State. This partnership was solidified during a courtesy visit by FRSC's Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Jonathan Owoade, to LASTMA's headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, expressed his enthusiasm for the strengthened alliance, emphasizing LASTMA's dedication to working closely with the FRSC on key areas such as traffic decongestion, public education, and the enforcement of traffic laws. He highlighted that this partnership is expected to yield significant benefits for road users in Lagos.

During the meeting, Mr. Bakare-Oki revealed that from January to June 2024, LASTMA penalized 9,370 vehicles for traffic violations, with 50% of these being commercial buses. All offenders were prosecuted in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

Additionally, he outlined several initiatives aimed at improving road safety and traffic management, including the launch of a toll-free call center, a Walk-In Complaint Centre, a Whistle Blower App, and upgrades to LASTMA's website and research department.

Assistant Corps Marshal Owoade reaffirmed the FRSC's leadership role in road traffic management and safety administration in Nigeria. He introduced the new vehicle number plates, designed to enhance security and visibility, and called for a public enlightenment campaign to educate motorists on road safety.

The meeting, attended by top management from both agencies, marks a significant step towards improved traffic management and safety in Lagos State.
