NCS: WE WILL MAINTAIN OUR STANDARD OF TRANSPARENCY IN PROMOTING QUALIFIED OFFICERS - CGC ADEWALE ADENIYI

We Will Maintain Our Standard of Transparency in Promoting Qualified Officers — CGC Adewale Adeniyi

The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, has reiterated the Nigeria Customs Service's (NCS) commitment to upholding transparency and fairness in its promotion process. This statement comes as the 2024 promotion examination for officers and men of the NCS commenced.

During an inspection visit to one of the examination centers at SASCON, Maitama District, Abuja, on Monday, August 19, 2024, CGC Adeniyi emphasized the Service's dedication to maintaining the integrity of the promotion exercise. He assured officers that the rigorous standards applied in previous cycles, which were praised for their fairness, would be upheld.

"We remain steadfast in our goal to promote deserving candidates solely on merit," CGC Adeniyi stated. "In terms of transparency, we have put in place stringent security measures and essential arrangements to ensure the process is fair and credible. We want every candidate to trust the outcome of these promotion exams."

The Comptroller-General further highlighted the enhanced security protocols, including tighter invigilation and other preventive measures, to eliminate any possibility of malpractice during the examination. He emphasized the competitive nature of this year's process, particularly due to the limited vacancies for the ranks of Deputy Comptroller and Comptroller.

"We are determined to identify and promote the most qualified officers," CGC Adeniyi added, acknowledging the challenges posed by the competitive environment.

To ensure inclusivity, CGC Adeniyi confirmed that technological provisions had been made for officers posted abroad, enabling them to participate in the promotion exams simultaneously with their counterparts in Nigeria. This initiative, made possible with the support of the National Intelligence Agency, ensures that no eligible officer is left out of the process.

"This promotion exercise is not only statutory but crucial to maintaining the high standards of our Service," he said. "Every officer who performs well can rest assured that their promotion will be granted fairly, based on merit."

The CGC's commitment to transparency and fairness in the promotion exercise reflects the Nigeria Customs Service's ongoing dedication to recognizing and rewarding excellence within its ranks.
