Oyo State Government Begins Compensation for Ajia Property Owners

The Oyo State Government has commenced the payment of compensation to property owners affected by the ongoing developmental projects along the Ajia corridor in Inukan LCDA, Ona Ara Local Government Area.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Mr. Williams Akin-Funmilayo, announced the commencement during a meeting with the claimants on Monday. He noted that the compensation is part of the state government's efforts to maintain a positive relationship with the local residents as it undertakes critical infrastructure projects in the area.

The government recently acquired the land to facilitate the construction of an Air Force Base, a General Hospital, and an ICT center, all located in the Ajia area of Ona Ara Local Government. To compensate the affected property owners, the state government has allocated ₦513,462,446.50.

Mr. Akin-Funmilayo emphasized that the payment of compensation is a significant step in ensuring the residents' cooperation and support for the government's developmental agenda. The commissioner also recalled that the government had previously conducted an identification and verification exercise for the property owners, during which their properties were valued in preparation for the compensation.

Expressing his gratitude, one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Adedokun Olalekan, thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for his empathy and commitment to the well-being of the people of Oyo State.
