President Tinubu Addresses Nation Amid Nationwide Protests, Calls for Dialogue and Unity

This morning, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu addressed the nation, expressing concern over the ongoing nationwide protests, now entering their fourth day. In his broadcast, the President acknowledged the grievances of the protesters, particularly the youth, while also condemning the violence and destruction that have marred the demonstrations in various states, including Borno, Jigawa, Kano, and Kaduna.

President Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and the destruction of public and private property, noting that such actions set back national development by diverting scarce resources needed for reconstruction. He commiserated with the families of those who lost their lives during the protests and called for an immediate end to the violence, emphasizing the need to restore peace and public order.

"As President of this country, I must ensure public order," Tinubu stated, urging protesters and their organizers to suspend further demonstrations and instead engage in dialogue. He reiterated the government's openness to negotiation and dialogue, highlighting the importance of unity across all divides in addressing the nation's challenges.

President Tinubu also defended his administration's economic policies, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the abolition of multiple foreign exchange systems. He argued that these measures were necessary to address longstanding economic mismanagement and to lay the foundation for future growth. He cited significant achievements, such as doubling government revenues and reducing the debt service burden, as evidence of progress.

The President highlighted various government initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of Nigerians, including infrastructure projects, support for farmers, and the distribution of conversion kits for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles. He also announced that the government has secured substantial funding to support youth employment and entrepreneurship, particularly in the digital and creative sectors.

In a direct appeal to the youth, President Tinubu acknowledged their frustrations and assured them that the government is listening and committed to addressing their concerns. He urged them not to be swayed by those who might seek to use the protests for political ends, and called on all Nigerians to work together towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

In conclusion, President Tinubu called on security operatives to maintain peace and order while respecting human rights. He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians and urged the nation to choose unity and progress over division and stagnation.

"Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come," Tinubu concluded, urging the nation to embrace the principles of democracy and reject any unconstitutional agenda.
