PROTESTERS CONTD #ENDBADGOVERNANCE DEMONSTRATIONS AMIDST GUNSHOTS AND TEAR GAS IN ABUJA

Protesters Continue #EndBadGovernance Demonstrations Amidst Gunshots and Tear Gas in Abuja

Hundreds of #EndBadGovernance protesters remain resolute in their demonstrations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), despite facing gunshots and tear gas from security operatives.

According to The Eaglesforesight, a large group of protesters marched along a major road in Kugbo, Asokoro, within the Abuja Municipal Council Area (AMAC). The protest comes after a Federal High Court in Abuja had restricted demonstrations to the Moshood Abiola Stadium. However, while some protesters adhered to the court's directive and moved to the stadium, others gathered at various locations throughout the capital.

Reports from Daily Trust indicate that security forces are struggling to manage the crowd, composed mainly of young people demanding an improved economy. Asokoro, the area where many protesters have converged, is notable for being home to Nigeria’s seat of power, various government establishments, military barracks, and the head office of the Department of State Services (DSS).

At Eagles Square in Abuja, Minister of State for Youth Development Ayodele Olawande attempted to address the demonstrators. However, he was met with chants of "hunger dey," indicating widespread discontent with the current state of affairs. Olawande, who has a history of participating in protests, assured the crowd that he was not there to suppress their rights. He promised to speak to the police about the use of tear gas canisters against the demonstrators.

The situation remains tense as protesters continue to occupy the streets, demanding action from the government.
