Brake Failure Causes Multiple Injuries, Major Accident at Ajah Under Bridge

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) responded swiftly to a major accident today at the Ajah Under Bridge on the Lekki-Epe Expressway, which left multiple individuals injured. The accident occurred when a tipper truck, reportedly due to brake failure, collided with a Rapid Response Squad (RRS) armored tank and a Suzuki mini bus (JJJ 257 YJ), resulting in serious injuries.

According to preliminary investigations, the tipper truck lost control while attempting a turn under the bridge. The malfunction led to a chain reaction where the truck collided with the stationary RRS armored tank, which then surged forward and struck the Suzuki mini bus. Among those injured was a LASTMA officer, who suffered a broken arm while on duty at the scene.

Emergency responders, including LASTMA officers, Lagos State Traffic Police from Ajiwe Police Station, and RRS officers, were immediately on the scene to manage the situation. The four injured individuals were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment, where they are currently receiving care.

The management of LASTMA has expressed deep concern over the incident and is actively monitoring the condition of the injured victims. LASTMA's General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of vehicle maintenance and strict adherence to traffic regulations, especially for drivers of heavy-duty vehicles, to prevent such accidents. He also assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the brake failure and appropriate measures will be taken.

Motorists and the public are urged to cooperate with traffic authorities as efforts are underway to restore normal traffic flow in the area.
