How AIG Adegoke Fayoade Got Decorated,  Urged to Uphold Rule of Law- IGP Egbetokun


In a ceremony filled with pride and accomplishment, Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, former Commissioner of Police for Lagos State, has officially assumed the rank of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police. His promotion, alongside seven other senior officers, was approved by the Police Service Commission and marked by a special decoration ceremony held at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Egbetokun Olukayode Adeolu, personally oversaw the decoration of the newly promoted AIGs, recognizing their dedication and commitment to the force. Among those celebrated was AIG Fayoade, whose impressive career as Lagos State Commissioner of Police has earned him a reputation for leadership and integrity.

Joined by his wife, Mrs. Adekemi Fayoade, and key figures like Dr. Ayo Ogunsan of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) and retired DIG Leye Oyebade, AIG Fayoade stood proudly as he received his new rank insignia. The promotion is part of a broader elevation within the force, with 15 Deputy Commissioners also being promoted to Commissioners of Police (CP), and the newly decorated AIGs, including Fayoade, posted to critical zones across Nigeria.


The significance of the moment was not lost on IGP Egbetokun, who used the occasion to reiterate the importance of upholding the rule of law. He urged the newly promoted officers to remain steadfast in their responsibilities and serve as ambassadors of the Nigeria Police Force, stating, “Each of you has a duty to discharge your new roles within the expectations of the citizens and the framework of the law, as we work towards a safer country for all."


AIG Fayoade’s promotion comes at a crucial time for the Nigeria Police Force, which is continuing its efforts to enhance security across the country. His new assignment will see him take on greater responsibilities in shaping the future of law enforcement. With a legacy of effective leadership in Lagos, where he tackled numerous security challenges, Fayoade's promotion to AIG is seen as a testament to his exceptional service.


The event was attended by high-profile dignitaries, including the Honorable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Wike; former Governors Victor Attah and Dr. Achike Odinwa; and the NBA President, Mazi Afam Josiah SAN. Family members of the newly promoted officers were also present, sharing in the joy and pride of this career milestone.


As AIG Fayoade embarks on this new chapter, his leadership and commitment will undoubtedly continue to inspire the officers under his command, ensuring that the force upholds its mission to protect and serve the people of Nigeria with integrity and professionalism.
