How Multi-Vehicle Crash Claims One Life, Injures 17 On Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge 


In the early hours of today, a devastating multi-vehicle accident occurred on the Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge, resulting in the tragic loss of one life and leaving 17 others injured. The incident, which happened at approximately 12:30 AM, involved a Mack truck, fully loaded with diesel, that lost control while speeding towards Ojota.


According to preliminary reports from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the truck, with registration number KWL 923 XB, experienced brake failure. In a desperate attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver inadvertently rammed into seven other vehicles, including buses and cars, causing extensive damage.

The LASTMA Rescue Team, known for their prompt response to overnight incidents across the State, were the first on the scene. They quickly called in additional emergency services, including the Lagos State Fire Service, LASAMBUS, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU), and officers from the Anthony Police Station.


Tragically, a passenger in one of the affected buses suffered fatal head injuries and died instantly. Meanwhile, LASAMBUS personnel provided immediate medical care to the 17 injured individuals, who were then transported to nearby hospitals for further treatment.


The LASTMA Rescue Team efficiently cleared the wreckage, including the diesel-laden truck, to restore traffic flow and prevent further congestion on the bridge.

Expressing his sorrow over the incident, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of LASTMA, offered his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. 


"Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones affected by this tragic accident. We remain committed to ensuring the safety of all road users in Lagos State," he stated.


This tragic event highlights the critical importance of road safety and serves as a solemn reminder for all drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations.
