HOW PRESIDENT TINUBU JUSTIFIES PETROL PRICE INCREASE, CITES NEEDS FOR DEVELOPMENT

How President Tinubu Justifies Petrol Price Increase, Cites Need for Infrastructure Development

President Bola Tinubu has provided insight into the rationale behind the recent increase in petrol prices, emphasizing the government's commitment to using the additional revenue for critical infrastructure development in Nigeria. Speaking at a meeting with members of the Nigerians in Diaspora Organization (NIDO) and the Nigerian community in China, Tinubu highlighted the need for bold reforms to transform the country.

Addressing the gathering at the China World Hotel, the President underscored the importance of making tough decisions to ensure Nigeria's future prosperity. He pointed to the high-quality infrastructure in China, including reliable electricity, constant water supply, and excellent schools, as a model for Nigeria to emulate.

“Nigeria is going through reforms, and we are taking very bold and unprecedented decisions," Tinubu said. "You might have been hearing from home in the last few days about fuel prices. But, can we help it? Can we develop good roads like you have here? You see electricity being constant in quantity and quality. You see water supply, constant and running, and you see their good schools."

The President further explained that without making difficult choices, such as increasing petrol prices, Nigeria would struggle to achieve the meaningful development its citizens desire. He urged Nigerians to understand the necessity of these reforms, which are aimed at paving the way for a better future for the country.

Tinubu expressed his determination to replicate China's infrastructure success in Nigeria, stating that the revenue generated from the fuel price increase would be directed toward improving schools, roads, and other essential services. He emphasized the need for innovative teaching and a business-friendly environment to foster growth and development.

The President's remarks were met with applause from the audience, reflecting support for his vision of a more developed Nigeria that can offer its citizens the same level of infrastructure and services seen in more advanced countries like China.
